“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity." ~Albert Einstein ~Allies~

#49: Notebook~In the Beginning
There was something interesting in that market today, something that caught his attention.
The streets were filled with people running around, buying items, and conducting their daily business. The occasional fights could be heard in the alleyways as people made their own attempts at surviving, not wanting to lose their pride in such poverty. Of course, not all were poor, as can be seen by some of the merchants who claimed to have rare and inexpensive items.
His lupine blue eyes scanned the stands, searching for something. He had seen the majority of the items in this shopping center and in truth it was the same stock every day. There was something new every once in a while, but these merchants never changed. His eyes lingered over the area a bit more, when a small leather-bound object captured his attention. There was something about this worn and slightly torn notebook that made his eye sparkle with joy.
It was ancient (well really old) and its used look gave it a somewhat divine texture that called out to him. He walked over with a smile on his face as he placed his hands on the notebook; his eyes sparkled like crystal waters on the island of Fiji.
"How much?
He asked the merchant, as the man gave him a look of annoyance.
"25 kid, take it or leave it."
His smile faded as he placed the notebook down in disappointment. His eyes remained focus on the ancient leather-bound object; how so he wanted it. The boy only had half that price and there was no way he could convince this man to let him have it...yet. The walk of shame never felt worse than it did today, as the young boy dragged his feet away from the stand.
His feet stopped while his lupine eyes darted back towards the stand, furious. He was Zenkai Kaizen for crying out loud, he would not be defeated. His eyes would widen as a plan formed within the confines of his mind. The notebook would be his, all that was needed was for him to be patient.
The sun set over the Rukongai horizon while the merchant closed down his shop. It was a long day and now it was time to go home. With a happy tune being whistled he walked his way towards his home, but in the shadows a figure stalked him. Kaizen smirked as he followed the man, using the crowds to avoid detection, and the shadows left by the declining sun. The man entered his house and Kaizen peered through the window.
The window led directly to the man's room, which seemed to be empty besides a bookshelf, bed, a few cabinets, and a rose by the left besides. The man placed his stuff down and kissed a stuff panda on his pillow as he left the room hearing the call of a woman. Kaizen smirked with this new discovery, a weakness he could use to acquire that notebook, and so he waited.
As nightfall engulfed Rukongai, Kaizen stood up and glanced in the window. He had waited by their house till nightfall and now, while the couple slept he made his move. With swift movement he made his way into their room through the window, landing with a thud, he quickly dove underneath their bed to avoid detection. After a minute or so of silence, Kaizen crawled from underneath the bed and scanned the room for the panda. It was sitting next to the man, though thankfully, he was cuddling his wife. Quickly snatching the panda, Kaizen made a dash for the door and slammed it on the way out, awakening the couple...
The sun rose above the shopping center while a man wearily walked his way to work. Some fool had stolen his panda, his childhood memory, and now he felt like he was nothing. So, he began to set up his shop as he looked up, noticing the boy from yesterday.
"What do you want kid? I told you its 25 or-"
He would stop in mid-sentence as he watched a small knife being held to the neck of his precious stuff panda. He was paralyzed with fear as Kaizen made a few steps towards the stand.
"In return for the safety of your precious animal, I want that notebook. If not, well you can say goodbye as it gets decapitated."
Kaizen said as he smiled, waiting for a response. The man was shocked as to why a kid would go to such lengths to get a notebook, but it wasn't worth the price of him losing a childhood memory. Without saying a word the merchant nodded as he placed the notebook at Kaizen's feet. Using his left hand Kaizen tossed the panda towards the man and picked up the notebook.
"Pleasure doing business with you. Look forward to further transactions, Sakido-san."
Kaizen said as he walked away and flipped the pages of the notebook, admiring its divine structure. There were many pleasures of gathering information about somebody, and surprising them was one of them. Taking out a pen he had acquired from a conversation with a local writer, he smiled.
Sakido-san. Status: Merchant Weakness: Stuff-animal Transaction Complete[/font]
The notebook would close as he finished writing down a small bit of information. Now he had something to store information he gathered about a person; life just got better.

#102: Letter~Memories of Romance: Curious Trap
"Why are you doing this to me?"
A voice asked as the figure's eyes glanced curiously at the drawn wolf on his right arm. He wasn't sure why she had decided to start marking on his arm to begin with, but now this was going to take forever to get off. His eyes flickered as the female shinigami giggled.
"What's wrong Kaizen? You don't like my wolf drawing? I think it suits you well, after all, your eyes are similar to those a wolf's."
Kaizen raised an eyebrow as he sighed, the lack of sleep was starting to get to him. It was a pain being in an academy class, especially after spending a week or so in prison and being monitored every so often. It was bad enough they had this girl following his every move. He wanted his freedom back, the ability to move around and observe what he wanted, when he wanted, but apparently, the higher ups had other ideas. He simply smiled faintly as he stood up and began to walk away. There were more important things to do than to entertain some random female; collecting information was just that.
"My eyes look nothing like a wolf's, besides even if they did, it doesn't matter much. You can't tame a wild animal, so just let it be free."
Kaizen gave himself a light grin as he walked out with a feeling of satisfaction. "Now to wash off this drawing on my arm and get back to reading." He thought as he made his way towards his room. It would be a few hours before the drawing was removed, only to reveal two small letters: LN. "I get the feeling I know who that belongs too..." Kaizen thought, slightly annoyed, as he grabbed his zanpaku-to. His teacher had assigned him to do some research on hollows and write a report on them, so he might as well get that done.
Kaizen smiled softly as he walked in the shadows of the hallway, with a book in his hand. It was quite an enjoyable read and hollows were fascinating creatures, though he was rudely interrupted as a small paper came floating gracefully down from the ceiling and landed on his book. With a curious gaze, the shinigami placed the book down and opened up the small people. Once again the letters 'LN' were written on it, along with a note inside.
"Curious aren't you? If you'd like to find out where this is from, just follow the letters on the floor. Have fun."
Kaizen raised an eyebrow as he looked around, only to spot more 'LN' notes leading to a trail. In truth, he was curious to find out, but there was something on the inside telling him not too. Though, Kaizen was always one to give in more to curiosity than instinct, and that applied in this situation as he picked up his book and traveled the hallways gathering the mysterious letters that hung on the walls.
He would find himself in a courtyard, as the moon created shadows on the ground. It was eerie to begin with, not to mention the darkness of the trees didn't help. It was then, when he felt himself being pulled by the neck. Instinctively he launched his elbow back, only to miss the intended target and found a black choker on his neck. He stared in confusion while he spun around, only to face the person who had attacked him.
"You?!"
He cried out in shock, as he reached for his zanpaku-to. Before he could reach for the handle, a soft hand rested on his handle while the other one grabbed his right hand, seeming to calm the storm.
"You said a wild animal couldn't be tamed huh? Well, what happens if I put a collar on the animal? That means, it's mine to own now."
The girl winked towards Kaizen as she let go of the man and danced in a circle for a few seconds and pointed towards the young shinigami.
"13th division, 5th seat Lucinia Nobuyoshi, the only person assigned by the captain commander and your taichou to monitor you every. Single. Day."
As she ended her sentence, she winked once more at the young shinigami as she held out a piece of paper with the letters LN. Kaizen simply smiled as he crossed his arms, he wasn't defeated, and it was only a minor setback.
"Well, isn't just lovely, I get to spend the rest of my academy days with you. Might as well nail me into a wall. Besides, I figured out those were your initials, after all, who else would go through such lengths just to put a choker on me?"
Kaizen said calmly as he kept his composure and stride. He was wrong, it was a sign of defeat, she had bested him in a game of cat and mouse, and now she had captured the wild animal. "There's something different about her though, something-" His thought was cut off as she shoved a cardboard cutout of the letters 'L' and 'N' in his face and skipped away.
Kaizen held to two letters in his hand, glancing at them as if he held the key to life. It was strange, he should have been angry at the fact that he was shoved to cardboard cut outs in his face and his time was wasted, but he didn't seemed to be phased by this at all. With a sigh he glanced upwards at the sky and watched as the moon slowly taunted him as it passed through.
"Why do you taunt me moon? Is this a way to treat a man when he's down on his luck?"
He rubbed the handle of his zanpaku-to with his left hand as he tossed the letter 'L' up and down with his right. There was something astounding about the moon tonight, though he couldn't tell what it was. Perhaps it was the rays of light that created a shadow on the land, or it was the beauty that radiated off of the moon's surface.
"I can see why a wolf howls to you though."
Whatever it was, the moon memorized the young shinigami enough to stand there and watch.
