Appearance: A childish face set with golden brown eyes is framed by a dark, nearly royal blue set of locks that fall to the shoulder when loose, which it is very rarely. On the contrary, most of it is usually pulled back into a tail that hangs down just below the shoulders, with the rest – what manages to escape or he fails to catch when he pulls it back – falling to about chin level. One unfortunate side effect of all this is that he does seem a bit girlish. His slim build and tendency toward more flamboyant attire would also raise questions as to whether he is really male or not.
On top of all this, his voice never really shifted, so he speaks with a soft tenor, bordering on alto voice. In addition, he is extremely fastidious in keeping his entire uniform on when out and about, even on the warmest of days remaining in his coat no matter whether the other males are running around without one or not.
As part of his shihakusho, and a sign of his status as a noble, Morei wears a scarf that, strangely, is black to match the rest of his attire. Hwever, the scarf has a large pattern of swirls, waves, and spikes stitched in white and silver thread, with faint blue tracery of clouds and dragons. The flamboyance only lends toward the appearance that perhaps something is 'different' about him.
Personality: Morei is a very quiet, laid back person, with only a few things that can cause him to lose the facade of calm and serenity that he portrays. One of them, the key one in fact, being anyone speaking out against the nobles. Being of a noble house first and foremost, and having grown up as he did, he takes great offense to this, and will give you a single warning, before walking off. Further pursuit of this line of thinking will cause a swift retribution and accusation of treason.
Another thing that can set him off is a Shinigami overstepping his bounds and doing more than his power allows, or abusing the power they have been trained to use to protect the people. This will likely cause him to confront you with the truth of what you're doing, whether you realize what you've done or not. And then he proceeds to execute the law, leaving the choice of punishment up to the offender, whether he drags them back off to Seireitei and the Gotei 13, or attempting to execute them on the spot. It usually ends up being either the former or letting them go, as even though he is a child of the Ueno family, Rayne isn't quite strong enough to defeat some of the stronger Shinigami.
But in spite of being as laid back as he is, he will still be quick to tell you that you've stepped over whatever line he happens to notice you cross. Quietness doesn't matter in instances like this, and he's quick to make sure you know that he won't tolerate it again. Of course, generally this means that if it happens again he'll be walking away from you and want nothing more to do with you.
Most times, he could be found studying whatever book he's gotten his hands on, or working on his Bakudo training. On rare occasions, he can be found on the battlegrounds, working on some new blade technique or another. He usually goes for the more outlandish and flaretastic moves, and frequently ends up injuring himself while working on them. But this never stops him, and he doesn't stop until he learns the technique and can perform it from memory.
Strengths: While quiet and reserved, Rayne is one to be quick about noticing weaknesses and flaws, both in and out of battle. It is one of the key reasons he is so good at the various strategy games that the Shinigami use to practice without the risk of actual injury. Of course, Rayne is always eager to learn new tricks, even if this means taking on opponents that he knows he can't defeat on his STRONGEST day. This usually leads to humiliating defeats for him, but he always enjoys himself every time he plays, win or lose.
Another strength is his ability to slightly read people. Not that great at times, and fairly inaccurate when he doesn't concentrate, but when he does concentrate, what little he picks up on is usually always right. This has proved extremely useful, in that he already has a small circle of close friends that he hangs out with outside of lessons.
One additional strength that was ascertained early in his years in the academy was his ability to work well with others. This stems partially from his ability to, at a glance, find a tactically sound position to work from, and partially from the fact that he's always needed help, having only recently sprouted the last seven inches of his height. It made it a bit difficult to reach the higher up books in the library, so he was used to accepting help when it was needed, asking for it before it was offered most times. As such, any time a team event or mission is called, he volunteers, and is usually the first volunteer.
His greatest strength however is his eagerness to learn. Any book he can get his hands on no matter what the subject is, he pores over eagerly and hungrily, as if he can't read enough. Even some books on the higher level kidou, hopelessly beyond his reach at this point, have been cataloged in his endless reservoir of near photographic memory. If not the exact contents, then at least the title of the book as well as the page number for reference.
Weaknesses: Morei often has a hard time determining when a fight is truly worth fighting. His strategic mind will have him running when he should stay and fight, or fighting when it's going to cause him great harm. Many times this has put him near death himself, and he owes his life many times over to the fourth division. He can't seem to tell when a fight isn't worth fighting, and will sometimes fight even when it's not worth it.
This weakness seems to run tandem to another that he has. In the heat of battle, in spite of his strategic mind, Morei will often lose track of his allies for seconds at a time, as the urge to fight, to learn, to ascertain what one's enemies are capable of, overrides his own sense of self-preservation. It often takes more than a single hit to draw him away when he is in this state, but one of the benefits of this state is that little will distract him from his target, and even less will actually disturb the peace into which he slips while fighting and learning.
Sealed Zanpakutō: A normal katana, the first thing apparent from it is the silvery blue scabbard and white and blue wrappings around the handle. The pommel is capped in silver, with a star sapphire embedded into the cap. Hanging from four points around the handguard are twin silver and blue ribbons that flutter sharply in the air when he swings, and will catch any breeze no matter whether he's moving or not.
These ribbons are matched by another, longer ribbon attached to the end cap, this one pure white in color. Woven into the six inch wide ribbon are patterns and tracings, of dragons and clouds matching his shihakusho.
When the Zanpakutou is pulled from the sheath, the dragon and cloud motif is continued, down to the extended cap at the base of the blade shaped like the open mouth of a dragon, with the blade flowing out as if it were a tongue of flame. The blade itself is traced with more of the motif, with flames traced throughout the blade.
Zanpakutō Spirit: Aisuchiru is quiet, thoughtful, and only speaks when it is absolutely necessary to do so. But when he does, whatever he says to Morei is to the point, and definitely worth listening to. For the moment, he is content to just whisper to Morei's heart of hearts, but eventually, the time will come when Aisu's strength will be needed by Morei, and then, the fun will begin.
However, while the spirit -appears- to be nothing more than an old man, it is just a facade adapted by the spirit to avoid overwhelming Morei. In reality, Aisu is a frost dragon, a large entity with the shape of an Oriental style dragon made entirely of ice. But while some would think this limits mobility, Aisu's lessons teach not only the strength of ice, but also how it can be fluid, moving around itself as need be.
Aisuchiru's home is on a cliff, a small, unassuming hut that holds many secrets, much like Morei himself. From the back, a small stairway leads down into a grotto, a grotto filled with ice-covered ledges, protrusions, and walls. It is here that Aisuchiru himself meditates, and here that he will test Morei, test him and push him until he learns the true power of cold and ice.
The ocean visible from the edge of the cliff is frozen several hundred feet out from the cliff, but there it becomes true ocean. There is no sign of life aside from Aisuchiru himself, even as far as the eye can see. The water is still, stagnant almost, and the cliff top is barren of all plant life. The bitter chill in the air cuts into your very skin, no matter how many layers of clothing you wear.
Shikai Incantation: “アイスチル フリーズストライク” Aisuchiru furi'zusu toraiku Icy Chill Freezing Strike!
Shikai Catagory: Elemental Release
Shikai Range: Short Range
Shikai Description: By slamming his hand against the pommel of his Zanpakutou, and calling out the incantation, Rayne can activate Shikai mode. The first sign that it has been released is the blade turns from the silvery gray of steel to a bright blue, shading through into a crystalline white, the blade turning somewhat clear at the edges. The ribbons shrink, dropping to about six inches in length, and coil up and around Rayne's arm to the elbow, effectively locking the Zanpakutou into his hand completely.
The blade itself extends out to a slightly longer length, matching in size what many mistakenly call a daikatana, but what is actually known as a nodachi, a katana that is about two feet longer than the norm.
Shikai Abilities:
Technique Name: 低温ストライク :: Teion Sutoraiku
Technique Category: Augment
Technique Range: Long Range
Technique Description: The blade glows bright white, and he drags it along the ground, the ground freezing around it as he goes. When he comes up with the blade, the ice jets out in a narrow cone of about thirty feet, freezing anything it catches to the ground for several seconds. Of course, with a high enough strength, at low power it can be broken free from. As of the moment, it'll only stick you in place for a few seconds, enough to give him time to act or regather himself.

History:
(((Morei remembers nothing of his human life, due in large part to the fact that he was actually born in Soul Society after his death in the human world. The first section of the history is just to explain a few things, a few mannerisms that are the only way his human life makes an appearance in character.)))
BIRTH
Morei was born into the human world first, to a pair of simple parents, living a simple life. He was born in Japan, in a small farming village where his parents ran one of the more prosperous farms. He was born easily enough, and his family – both his immediate family consisting of his mother, father, and two older brothers, and his rather large extended family that lived on the farms around them – welcomed him into the world happily.
Of course, the age gap meant his oldest brother, Liam, was out on his own shortly after Morei was born. But he still visited often, so Morei was able to at least form memories of him. Of course, he grew up rather quickly, a very precocious child indeed. By the time he was three, he was already up running around and keeping up with his six year older sister.
As he grew up, he showed a voracious appetite for learning how things worked, and why they worked that way. By the time he was nine, he'd pulled apart every farm tool in the area, putting it back together in better quality than what it had originally been. This was quickly put to use, and the productivity on the surrounding farms went up like a rocket.
Of course, this drew attention, but nothing really came of it until Morei was 15. By now it's been forgotten in the human world, as it's been that long ago, but one of the closer farms that weren't owned by Morei's family was suffering because of the prosperity Morei had brought to his family.
This other family decided, that in order to get back at the cause of their trouble, they would set fire to Morei's family farm. The fire caught quickly, as they set it during the dry season. When Morei found out, being the most physically able of the family, immediately got his family out of the house and to one of the other adjoining farms. But the problem really arose when Morei went back to his family's personal farm to try and rescue the animals. It took him several trips, but he got most of the animals out. But with the last trip, the flames caught up with him, completely cutting off any chance of getting out he had.
When his family finally managed to get the fire put out three days later, Morei was dead. He'd already been soul buried, though the family didn't understand how the fire had stayed so contained with the little bit of work they were able to put into controlling it at first.
REBIRTH
Morei didn't stay resting long after his death. Reborn into Soul Society, he was born into the Ueno noble family within Seireitei, the second son of Ueno Noburo himself. Of course, being the spirit of a dead human, this would have caused quite a stir had anyone known, and he likely would have received different training if they had known how he'd grown up in the human world.
But there was no way for them to know what he had been through, so it was that he was, at an early age, allowed access to all the books he could get his hands on. This was done for a two-fold reason. Firstly, to get him started on the training he would be expected to take as a member of a noble house, and second, to find out just where his strengths might lie when he did begin training. What was slightly unexpected was that the first place his mind would draw him for knowledge was toward Bakudo.
Any chance he could get, he would be found playing games of strategy and the mind with his siblings, and on occasion other nobles that had come to visit. He showed early on a clear grasp of the finer points of strategy, representing a keen mind that was quick to analyze and react.
This went on for several years, as he grew up slowly, taking in more and more knowledge. What truly astounded those around him was that any time they mentioned something he had read, he could usually quote book title, page number, and even down to which paragraph on the page on some occasions.
The Ueno family encouraged this, judging it to likely be a representation of which of the thirteen Court Guard squads he would get chosen by. So he continued to read, continued to learn, showing a voracious, nearly insatiable appetite for knowledge. They couldn't get the books down from the shelves in the family library fast enough for him.
THE ACADEMY
Of course, all happy peaceful times come to an end, and it was no different for young Morei. For him, the end came when he was old enough to enter the Shinigami Academy, which he did at the earliest possible age. Now, his thirst for knowledge showed its benefits, in that he picked up the Bakudo lessons quickly, and the Hado only a bit less quickly.
One of the friends he made during his early years was Mikoto Ayamasa, a student some ten years ahead of him. But in spite of this gap, the two were more equal than some of the other students in the same year. Aya was a rowdy and rambunctious young man, almost completely opposite the personality Morei was exhibiting.
In spite of this, the two of them seemed made to be friends, with the way the two of them balanced each other out. Many times, those around them thought these two would end up killing one another, but no matter how many times they seemed to butt heads, they always came out with little to no injuries. The two sparred frequently, and most assumed that Morei was always flattened during and just managed to bounce back quickly every time. Aya, however, was one of the few people that could actually keep up with all of the bizarre maneuvers and tricks that Morei was learning.
It was partially because of Aya that Morei began working better and better as part of a team. The two of them were completely inseparable, Aya often volunteering as a senior student supervisor for Morei's year, going along on the group missions to keep an eye on his young friend.
Of course, there were downfalls to all of this as well. Any time he was sent on a solo mission, he performed poorly, even with the aid of the older, more experienced Shinigami that were sent along with the students. Any time he was sent on a group mission, however, it was very rare that they needed the backup of the older Shinigami, except when things got out of hand on the rare occasion it did.
Things got a lot more interesting three weeks before Morei's class was set to graduate and be placed into their squads. During a routine group patrol, the entire group was ambushed. Two members of the group were taken down before anyone even had a chance to react, the Hollows were that fast.
The senior students hurried the rest of them along, including Aya, who had made his way into supervising such missions. But it was during this rather bad moment that the true power of Morei's Zan showed itself.
It was the standard appearance for a Zan spirit, the world slowing and stopping, all color seeming to bleed out of it. It was during that moment in time, where no one else could move or do anything, that Morei clearly heard his Zan's voice, calling out his name and commanding him to call upon him.
Morei did so, and the ensuing blast of ice slammed through the Hollows, sticking them in place long enough for Aya and the other two senior students to destroy the Hollows, removing the threat to the junior students.
Unfortunately, the colossal release of power that this required sent Morei into a state of soporific slumber that took him three days to recover from.
When he did recover, however, it was to the Tenth Squad Lieutenant sitting next to his bed with a small scroll sealed with the insignia of the Captain of the same squad. It was a request to speak with Morei personally, at the earliest convenience.
As he had just awakened, the healers required him to stay an extra day to be sure there were no ill effects that they had missed. Fortunately, there were none, so he was allowed to leave after that day of observation.
When he arrived to speak with the captain of Tenth Division, it was to find that the man had put in a request for Morei to be attached to his squad immediately, full assignment pending graduation from the academy.
AMONG THE TENTH
Of course, this came as quite a shock to the other members of tenth squad, but the biggest shock was his father's. The entire family had been Sixth division as far back as the records went, and now one of them had broken that pattern. While he was shocked, however, he was extremely proud of his son having been requested by the captain rather than assigned by the heads of the school, and was quick in showing his pride by making sure that the sections of the family library that had been previously off-limits to him were now available with no questions asked.
When he finally graduated, he immediately moved into the Tenth Division barracks, where he flung himself headlong into the work of one of the oddest squads in the world. He fit right in, with his penchant for working with a team, and sharing what he had learned as much as absolutely possible. It was due to this that he quickly rose in the ranks, making seventh seat within three months. But then he seemed -- to outsiders at least -- to stall at seventh seat.
In reality, he was being offered promotions, but turning them down. He felt he had not advanced enough in his control over his Shikai to accept the advancement, let alone other areas. He spent the better part of three years at Seventh Seat, before he even considered any thought of advancement beyond that.
THE FINAL ADVANCEMENT
Six more years passed, with Morei slowly rising further and further through the ranks. At the end of that six years, Morei was Fourth Seat of Tenth Division, with no sign that he had any aspirations of being higher in the rankings. Unfortunately, he was thrust into the position when the officer before him was slain during a mission with the captain.
The vacancy caused by this remained empty for three weeks, until Morei agreed to take the position, where he now resides as the Third Seat of Tenth Division, working directly with the Lieutenant, as well as helping some of the lower seats work on their elemental control when they need it.

He sighed, shaking his head. “Aya, you know as well as I do I have to follow orders, and so do you. We all do, if we are going to have any hope of joining the thirteen Court Guard squads. Not following our orders as students is going to look very bad when we go before the captains to be chosen,” he said, bowing his head over his current study, a book on higher level Bakudou. His blue hair fell forward slightly, shading his face as he flipped the page, shaking his head. “It's probably going to be a while before I can learn any of these. They're so powerful, I'd probably end up hurting myself trying to protect myself with them.”
He chuckled as the younger male grumbled, and glanced back over at him. “Well, if you would apply yourself to your studies more, maybe you'd get better marks on our tests. As it stands, you're probably going to get chosen by the 11th squad, with your love of fighting. I mean, come on, how many fights have you gotten in this past week? Five? Six?” He shook his head. “But at least if you end up in 11th, you'll be where you can do what you're best at. Me? I'm hoping for 10th.”
He looked over at a snort from Aya. "Oh, come on. Yeah, I know my entire family is in Sixth. But that's just... I'll never reach my full potential with my abilities, let alone be able to properly work as part of a team." He sighed, resting his head in his hands. "You know as well as I do that I'm more comfortable working with a team than alone. Out of all the squads, Tenth is the main one that emphasizes teamwork the MOST." He shook his head. "This is pointless, though. I've got a group mission coming up this evening, and I know you're one of the ones supervising. I need to see if there's something in the records about the are we're going to."
