It is my belief that the number one thing that makes this site unique is the philosophy that has been developed throughout the history of Bleached Soul. It is a very fine line between role-playing in the world of bleach and creating your own universe. The primary reason for the creation of Bleached Soul all those years ago was the inability to find any site that does not fall into that latter category. If a persons ability goes beyond the bounds of what an ability does in the source material, I cannot any longer consider it bleach. Now many fire back that this restricts creativity, which I will not deny. However by choosing to role-play bleach, we have decided to limit our creativity, have we not? It comes down to the fact people want what they want. It is these limits that make bleach unique, loose sight of these factors and it's become nothing more than a generic shonen.
My method for defining the limits of what is acceptable is done in two forms. The first of which is the more concrete examination and scientific classification using the examples we see in the source material. An example of how Bleached Soul has taken this farther than any other site is the zanpakutou guide in which we attempt to rigorously classify every type using those we've seen. You can be sure any new zanpakutou we see will fit into these per-established roles.
However this method of classification can only go so far, how can we tell when something has gone to far within these boundaries? A good question to ask oneself is, if my character were to exist within the canon, how much would they stand out? Surely we all want to stand out from the crowd, but am I standing out for the right reasons? The protagonist of any shonen is a good example of what not to do and Ichigo is no exception. At every turn his abilities are unique, Rukia wondering how his sealed blade could be so large all the way to Byakuya saying outright that his bankai doesn't follow the rules of a bankai. People should always look to your character and say that you are unique, but it is extremely easy to go to far to the point where you've become an Ichigo, someone who defies all acceptable definitions.
This distinction must be made because we are a part of a community, not the main character of a story. If we all approach making our characters like they were Ichigo, then we are all so unique that originality has become bland. Some say this means we are then not unique, but are most of the characters in bleach commonplace? I cannot say so, they have wonderful characters with some exceptional powers while still fitting into the guidelines we present on this site.
So the question to ask yourself is, if your character was placed into canon would they react to you like they react to any other of the unique characters we see, or would they react in the manner they do to Ichigo?
Enough of my rambling, on to the rules.
