Appearance:
Hikaru is an enigma. His body is a true contradiction to his sex. If one word would describe Hikaru, it would be androgynous or perhaps even feminine. It is one of the many mysteries of the Seireitei. Just what gender is Shirotomi, Hikaru? A day doesn’t go by where this question is not asked by one initiate or even out-of-the loop captain. Perhaps it is apathy, or maybe Hikaru prefers it this way, but is a question that he leaves unanswered. Of course, some mebers of the gotei 13 know his true gender. Family members, certain captains, close friends, but even those that swear they know are doubted. Just how could someone so beautiful be a man?
Hikaru’s facial features match the lithe form of his body. The contours of his face are soft and delicate. His skin is pallid, only disrupted by the velvety pink underlying tones of his cheeks. His lips seem relaxed in a permanent pout. They seem several shades too red and too thin to belong to anyone that could ever be described as masculine. Frosty blue eyes peer through a veil of long black lashes. Crescent shaped brows that have seen meticulous grooming shadow the constant vigilant eyes. His mere gaze can be described as penetrating, violating, judging. Those beneath his station often feel overwhelmed in his presences, and Hikaru makes little effort to rescind their fears. His youthful features have yet to be marred by wrinkle, or scar, or spots. Even time seems to be in awe of his beauty. An avalanche of silky white hair pours down his back, resting at the small of his back. The snow white color, an heirloom of his noble blood. It frames the outline of his face, perfectly groomed and well kept.
With a voice more like song than prose, the words that dance from his mouth evoke images of silk and orchids. His inflection carries a certain kind of cadence. An alluring tempo infused with honey. It is lyrical even while he is disinterested and symphonic when it is something that captures his attention. His eyes glimmer underneath those thick quills, and the very air seems to thrum with emphatic energy. Nervous habits bleed through his calm demeanor. Fingers flick out in a sequenced pattern, swinging back to meet the tender flesh of his palm. Only he can hear the wonderful rhythm that it plays. His brow will furrow in anticipation. His body quivers only so slightly. Barely noticeable traits concealed to all but the most observant eyes.
Hikaru’s supple form is reminiscent of a prepubescent girl. Standing a breath under 5’8”, his body can only really be described as agile. Akin to his face and voice it exists plainly in the realm of femininity. Though it lacks the assets that appeal to most men, it is still fit, slim, and toned. Yet, despite the labor he subjects his body to it seems free of callouses, devoid of the wear and tear of physical activity.
Would it surprise you if somewhere within the Shirotomi compound lies a room whose sole purpose is to house the entirety of Hikaru’s garb? Alas, the Gotei Thirteen has a rather strict dress code. So the piles of scarves, the avalanche of robes and kimonos, the veritable army of slippers barely see the light of day. Instead, Hikaru is left to spruce up the drab and dull existence of the current Shihakusho. Instead these frivolous items only appear during off duty hours, however rare those might be.
Perhaps the most notable thing about Hikaru’s standard black and white funeral garb is that it is a slimmer variation in comparison to his peers. The typical loose cloth instead hugs the curves of his body. A translucent blue sash composed of a satin like material clamps the slack of the outfit against his lissome body. The crest of house Shirotomi is inked on to the left fold of the sleeveless Haori. A high collar conceals his delicate neck. It is embroidered in light lines of silver, with two small tassels tie the collar closed. A regal blue cloak, dashed with vigorous lines of silver is clasped just below his shoulder with a crescent moon brooch. The flowing cloak wraps over his slender shoulders and clasps together just below his neck with a crescent moon shaped pin. With a single flick of the wrist, the clasps can be thrown from their position and clatter to the floor. The loose cape follows with it, leaving Hikaru standing in a pool of blue and silver.

Shintsuki (Dark Moon)
Sealed Zanpakuto:
Shintsuki, a blade of regal qualities, seems to personify Hikaru’s very character. Dangling from a frayed silver string knotted around Hikaru’s waist, under his captain’s haori, Shintsuki is sheathed in a royal blue scabbard. The sheath itself reclines against Hikaru’s hip, protruding slightly from the tail of his uniform. A cap of gold adorns both the head and mouth of the sheath. From here the hilt rests within grasping distance from Hikaru’s standing position. Akin to its casing, the hilt is also a portrait of gold and blue. The haft of the blade is finely embellished with gold embroidery. A silver orb hangs from a golden shaft which juts from the base of the hilt. White diamonds sequent the sides of the grip. Finally, the guard of the blade is to fine silver crescents, each a half of a moon. The tips of these scythe-like constructs meet together at their apex, forming the outline of a translucent moon.
Shintsuki is a blade of fine quality. The lustrous surface emits a distinct sheen giving it a decisive opalescent quality. The shaft of the sword extends roughly twenty-eight inches, nearing the maximum length of most katana. Despite the thin, near frail, appearance of the blade the length makes it quite hefty often resulting in resulting in Hiraku wielding Shintsuki with two hands. Most striking about the blade is that when unsheathed it seems to radiate with a cold, dull white light. At the base of the blade on each side is etched one half-moon. One inked in a dazzling white, the other engraved in a stark black, with thick brush strokes.
Zanpakutō Spirit:
When Shintsuki first appeared to Hikaru it was nothing more than a ghostly white feminine visage masked behind an elegant golden façade. Long needle like spires erupting from the center of aged ornate mass, with bits of silver hair cascading down from the shadowy recesses of her intricate guise. Truly the elaborate design can only be compared to the bronze castings of holy symbols found only on the most affluent of European cathedrals. Behind the masquerade lies pure and delicate beauty. Her chin was dainty, her skin unmarred and tender. Her ethereal head, impossibly pale like untainted moonbeams. Her pallid lips curl into a knowing smile, taunting almost, as if she understood more about Hikaru then he did himself.
Their relationship was tense at first. She would appear frequently, quietly hovering over his shoulder to offer a guiding word through tones saturated in sarcasm. He would take the defensive and shelter himself from her mocking wisdom. She would sigh, still smiling, and vanish into a swirl of black crescents and silver twirls, only leaving a tendril of smoke where her head once gazed. In time though, the two grew. She, shedding the condescending tone and he, leaving the bastion of his silence. As they grew closer more of her became visible, slowly Shintsuki would become more tangible.
First the crisp white outlines of her shawl. Then the cage of bronzed jewelry embracing the frame of her delicate throat gradually became more opaque. As the two bonded her soft frame came into fruition. She wears traditional ceremonial garb. A simple white gown tightened just above the waste by a plain worn rope. She wears silk gloves, the tips of each finger dyed a contrasting black. Finally as their bond became solidified the finer details became visible. Her shawl is inscribed with vivid ink, creating a puzzling pattern of symbols and etchings. The right side is brushed with a glowing bright white to represent the pure moonlight. The right side is a mirror image but painted in a runny black ink to symbolize the side of the moon that lies outside of sight.
When within Hikaru’s spirit plane, her residence, there is a clear and distinct difference from her appearance in the material plane. The colors of her garb inverse. The aged mask of gold and brass is now a dazzling mix of silver and white. Each spire radiates with thrumming moonlight so pure and bright that it stings the retina. Her shawl and gown become a charcoal gray, and take on the attributes of an angry smoke. It swirls around her lithe form, unsettled and uncontrollable. Most notable though is the tendrils of moonlight that manifest below her gown. They erupt from where her legs would be, and coil up around her much like tentacles. They slither about, shimmering in the cold air of the spirit plane. It is haunting.
Shintsuki has taken on a matriarchal role in Hikaru’s life. She resembles the bitter crone. She is wise and her words sagely but they always sting. Her voice is sharp and frigid but she speaks truth. Hikaru detests her cynicism but values her insight. The two still bicker from time to time, but Hikaru has grown fond of what he describes as “the harpy”. She speaks quickly, methodically and does not waste breath on spare syllabus or unwarranted words. She is not one for idle conversation. Now that the two have come to understand one another, she does not manifest herself in the material realm as often as she once did. Instead she sits idle on the crescent in the sky of the spirit plane, waiting for her pupil to seek her out for advice. He always does.
The spirit plane itself is a true spectacle. The scape takes the shape of a medieval European city bathed in the twilight of a blooming purple crescent. The city takes the shape of a perfect circle. Crumbling buildings of stone and mortar line the decaying cobbled streets. The farther from the center the more decayed the city becomes. Towards the edges it is in complete disarray, the concept of reality itself becomes warped as the buildings begin to collapse in on themselves. Lying at the epicenter though is a massive cathedral, still completely intact and surprisingly maintained. Thick walls dotted with vast gaping windows, supported by immense buttresses rip from the mossy earth and tear open the sky. Marble spires of epic proportion loom overhead; it truly is a daunting construct. Massive silver doors seal the inside of the cathedral from the chaos of the outside. Even after obtaining his bankai, Hikaru has still yet to see the inside of this intimidating structure.
A dusky purple crescent hangs like a guillotine in the eerie cloudless sky. Rays of ghostly light illuminate the dark city below. The air is constantly chilly, eliciting fogged breath from visitors. The light itself seems to carry an unearthly cold, freezing to the very bone. Here, on this scythe, sleeps Shintsuki.
Semeru Jakusha, Shintsuki (Condemn the Weak, Darkmoon)
Shikai Category: Kido release
Shikai Range: Short Range
Shikai Description:
Shintsuki’s release, while flashy, is rather simple. While speaking the incantation, Hikaru brings the blade parallel with his chest, running horizontally. Shuntsuki begins to hum with a dull white energy as he makes a hand seal above the blade. As his skin kisses the metal of the katana it becomes cloaked in light. Crescent shaped blades of faint yellow light distort the air around it, thrumming harmlessly into the air about Hikaru. After several brief seconds the emissions halt, and the light fades to reveal a sadistic new blade.
Shintsuki emulates the very quality of the moon. The body of the sword curves like a crescent. The drastic arc gives it an axe like quality while remaining solidly within the realm of swords. It truly is a violent weapon, the slope of the crescent meant for taking heads. The tip of the blade splays into a fishhook shape meant to catch and tear flesh. The blade takes on a bruise purple hue with a lustrous quality. The blade is only slightly larger than Hikaru's katana. While it can be carried with one hand, it is far more formidable when swung with both.
Though the blade certainly screams brutality, it does not lose its noble appeal. The hilt becomes a wrap of burnished leather, dotted with the same white diamond inlay from the sealed zanpaktou. The metal has a certain sheen that glitters in direct light. A lone purple gem bedazzles the top of the hilt. From the butt of the hilt emerges another crescent moon shape, completing the motif.
Technique Name: Katsugan no Himekami (Piercing Eye of the Goddess)
Technique Category: Augment: Debuff
Technique Range: Long range
Technique Description: Upon release the first phase of this technique occurs regardless of intention. It is worth noting that the shape of Hikaru’s blade is not the only thing that changes. In addition six twinkling spheres of pale moonlight orbit around Hikaru in a circular motion. These arcane circles, each roughly the size of a baseball, hover just above Hikaru’s head, bobbing up and down as if upon some invisible tide. While enthralling, the orbs have no function while they revolve around Hikaru.
However, with the snap of the finger these small orbs can be commanded to instead orbit a foe. While one of these spheres remains within vision of their anchor the target suffers from increase gravity as they are “grounded”. While anchored the victim’s movement and reactions feel sluggish and slow as they suffer from reduced speed and finesse. Each action demands more energy and concentration. Finally, while the target is leashed to an orb, they are forced to remain on the ground. Attempting to use abilities or techniques that allow the victim to fly or jump great distances drain a vast amount of energy as gravity attempts to forcibly slam them back to the earth. Ultimately those with high strength can resist this effect but still suffer from drain and exhaustion.
While an orb is leashed to an opponent, Hikaru most expend reishi to maintain this connection. At his current state, an orb can be leashed to an enemy for roughly thirty minutes before Hikaru must seal his blade for half that duration. For every orb in use at the same time, the duration is cut by five minutes.
Technique Name: Gekkou Tareginu (Moonlight Veil)
Technique Category: Utility
Technique Range: Long range
Technique Description: By releasing a burst of reishi as he draws a circle into the ground using the hilt of his sword, Hikaru is able to construct an artificial arena in which his opponents are trapped. A beam of moonlight cuts across the ground in a circular shape before igniting the sky in a veil of pale white flame. In reality this pallid fire is concentrated gravity which acts as a solid wall. Enemies and techniques are unable to pass through it thus trapping them within this 40 yard diameter.
A technique or strike of sufficient force, usually someone well above Hikaru’s strength, is capable of shattering the wall with some effort. Hikaru can hold the wall for roughly thirty minutes before the strength begins to falter.
Technique Name: Otete no Himekami (Hand of the Goddess)
Technique Category: Augment: Debuff
Technique Range: Short Range
Technique Description: A more powerful and concentrated version of Katsugan no Himekami. Otete no Himekami is a higher risk, higher reward technique which requires Hikaru to get into close range of his opponent. Once within striking distance, he may direct his orbs to surround the enemy, trapping them within a high gravity well. While the spheres orbit their anchor the enemy is constrained by outstanding pressure restricting their movement as if paralyzed. Hikaru must use a minimum of three orbs and up to six orbs to restrain his enemy. The more moons dedicated to this task, the stronger the gravity well is.
This stasis can be held for up to five minutes, with each additional orb above three reducing it by one minute. Enemies with awesome strength and willpower can fight against the gravity at the risk of exhausting themselves and tearing muscles. Weaker foes might actually be brought to the ground.
Technique Name: Mabiku Jakusha (Cull the Weak)
Technique Category: Offensive
Technique Range: Long Range
Technique Description: Perhaps the only directly offensive ability currently in Hikaru’s arsenal, Mabiku Jakusha uses the awesome force of gravity to propel foes into the air. By anchoring one of the moonlight orbs to his shikai, Hikaru can then propel the orb some distance. Upon contact with a solid surface the orb erupts into force that temporarily eradicates gravity in a six foot diameter around the place of impact. Anything caught in this area is launched skyward a wave of explosive pressure. After several seconds gravity returns to normal and pulls the target down to earth for a bone shattering finale. In conjunction with Katsugan no Himekami or Otete no Himekami, Mabiku Jakusha can be deceptively powerful.
Once an orb is expended in this manner, it cannot be regenerated until Hikaru seals his Shikai. Once sealed, one orb is generated every three minutes.
